Redskins Trade Trent Williams To San Francisco

Redskins traded disgruntled offensive tackle Trent Williams to the San Francisco 49ers for a fifth round draft pick in 2020 and a 2021 third round pick. The team was finally able to grant the star his wish, but it does give the team questions about the offensive line. While there was debate as to what the Redskins would receive for Williams, he is now off their books.

After having held out for a year, Williams clearly wanted out of Washington. With San Francisco's offensive tackle Joe Staley electing to retire, the opportunity arose for the trade. Williams might be in his 30s and clearly his best years are behind him, but he still has a few good years left for him to be a good addition for the 49ers.

While Williams is finally gone and is no longer a distraction, the question remains as what to do at his position. The draft choice of Saddhiq Charles might be the answer, but he is a rookie with a lot of questions about him. The value of the trade is a little disheartening as while the team might have gotten another draft pick for 2020 and 2021, they are fifth rounders from a team that is likely to make the playoffs hurting the Redskins' chances at drafting a more quality player.
