Notable Cuts By Redskins For 2019 Season

Despite all the chaos of cutting the team down, there were some notable names whether they were on the team before or were intriguing prospects that went undrafted. These were the most notable cuts as they are players with lots of talent. Some of them were shocking and some of them were not, but shocking to see them not stay with the Redskins in some sort of capacity. With that being said, here were the notable cuts the team made.

Samaje Perine

Perine was a power rusher who seemingly could not be productive in his tenure for the Redskins despite his skillset. Admittedly, he also didn't get much playing time, so it was hard to judge him off so few chances. The team might be regretting this move.

Jojo Wicker

Wicker looked like he had a great chance of making the roster as he added some intriguing stuff from the defensive line. He was explosive off the line, which could've been useful, but the team must've felt like they were comfortable with the group they have already at defensive line.

Cam Sims

Sims is a talented wide receiver who had a great tenure playing at University of Alabama, but hasn't had a good chance to showcase it in the NFL. Injuries hampered him in his rookie year and it seemed like he was going to lock down a spot, but ultimately was cut. He was luckily re-signed with the team later to be on the practice squad.

Jeremy Reaves

Reaves had a great chance at being on the 53-man roster, but ultimately the team decided to go with a player like Troy Apke because Apke was a draft pick. Reaves was one of the more physical defensive backs in last year's draft (though he went undrafted). Some experts thought Reaves should have made the team, but he is back and is on the practice squad.

Ryan Bee

Like Wicker, Bee had an excellent chance at making the roster, but ultimately did not make the 53-man roster. He does have an intriguing skillset which helps his prospects at playing in the NFL. However, the team felt like he needs some developing so they cut him and brought him back for the practice squad.

Timon Parris

With the Trent Williams holdout saga occurring, Parris had an excellent chance at making the team as a backup offensive lineman. He had spent some time with the Redskins last year due to injuries so he already knows the offense. They did cut him, but he is back on the practice squad.

Adonis Alexander

Alexander was an interesting prospect last year as he was a selection in the Supplemental Draft. He made some good plays last year and he provided depth, but they felt like there were better options. He is back though on the practice squad.

Craig Reynolds

There was some talk that Reynolds could make the team, but he was never a strong candidate. Reynolds was a feel good story as he was a running back from a Division II school and looked talented to make the roster or the practice squad, but it wasn't in the cards. He was signed to the practice squad though.

Byron Marshall

Marshall was a talented running back that the team had high hopes for, but he clearly was the least important one on the roster. He originally made the team, but was cut when Wendell Smallwood was claimed off waivers. It would have been nice had they kept him around.

Donald Parham

Parham is a big and physical tight end, so it was shocking somewhat to see him not even be brought back for the practice squad. Parham could have been a very valuable player to have around, especially with the injury prone Jordan Reed on the squad. He was an intriguing prospect and developing him might have been worth it.

Josh Doctson

Doctson was a first round draft pick that never seemed to play up to his potential. Doctson was injured his first year in the league, but he disappointed in 2017 and 2018. While there was some thought that 2019 was his last chance to prove himself, the Redskins thought otherwise and released him.
