So with the rosters trimming down to 28 players, decisions will be made of whom the team should send back to Schaumburg. While some decisions might seem simple, it all depends on the situation of the team. With that being said, let's take a look at some players on the bubble.
Matt Foster
Foster will try and make the case that he should stay on the team as he has shown in the two games he has pitched what he is worth. He throws hard and had good numbers in Triple-A Charlotte in 2019, so that might suggest he is worth keeping around. Plus, with expanded rosters, the team will probably like to keep arms around especially with how strong the bullpen has been.
Ian Hamilton
Hamilton has more of a chance at staying over Foster as he throws hard. While he has only been in one game, he has a more proven track record over Foster and is highly regarded. Plus, with wanting more pitchers on the roster, it's a safe bet to see him stay up.
Brady Lail
Lail has yet to make an appearance, but with a depleted starting pitching depth, Lail has a good chance of staying up. While it was shocking to see him promoted over more heralded prospects like Dane Dunning, Lail might just be with the team temporarily until Reynaldo Lopez returns. He could stay up, but then return to Schaumburg once Lopez is activated.
Zack Collins
With the rosters permanently expanded to 28 for the rest of the season, Collins is essentially assured of a guaranteed spot on the roster. However, he is one of the players on the bubble simply because the team wants him to develop more and with how the roster is constructed, it will be hard for him to get at bats. While it's unlikely to see him go down, keep an eye as to whether he goes down or not.
Ryan Goins
Goins probably would have been the likely candidate to be sent back to Schaumburg, but with recent injuries to their infield depth, Goins is all but certain to stay up. He can play anywhere on the infield and has speed, which makes it even more likely for him to stay up. How long he stays up remains to be seen, but Goins almost seemingly lucked his way into remaining on the roster.
Nicky Delmonico
Delmonico has not been hitting well and would seem like the likely candidate to be sent down, but it actually would seem harder to send him down. He does offer versatility and has pop in his bat, so he is a good player to have off the bench. While he probably shouldn't hit higher than seventh in the lineup if he starts, it would be interesting to see if the club decides to keep him on the roster.
Who Will Be Sent To Schaumburg: Matt Foster. So it will only be one player being sent back to Schaumburg because of Nick Madrigal being placed on the injured list, but the player likely to be sent back is Foster. While Foster should stay up especially with some pitching depletion and the depth that he provides in the bullpen, it's hard to seem him stay up. The player who should be is Delmonico because of his struggles, but with his left handed bat, pop, and versatility, it would seem he won't be sent down. While Lail might seem like the most best candidate, with a depleted rotation it seems more likely he stays up.
