Who Should The White Sox Have On Their Wild Card Series Roster

The White Sox are going to have to get creative who they bring to their Wild Card Round roster as some players may not make it for this round, but could be added if they advance. Now in this article, it will be evaluated as to who should be on the roster and also seeing some other scenarios of whom could be there too. Let's take a look at who should be on the team for this matchup against the Houston Astros.

Pitchers

Anthony Kay

Davis Martin

This probably will be who makes the pitching staff, but in a short series, the team may either add another pitcher or choose to go with another bat and only have eleven arms. If they add any more pitchers, the Sox could choose Tyler Davis, Tanner McDougal, Tyler Schweitzer, Shane Smith, or Drew Thorpe. If the Pale Hose prefer to go with another bat, then Anthony Kay is the likely odd man out here. Yes, Jonathan Cannon, Chris Murphy, and Jaden Woods were players mentioned in Scott Merkin's tweet about who was in the club's playoff prep squad, but they would unlikely be added if needed. Trevor Richards really struggled down the stretch, so it would seem unlikely he gets a spot here, but with the possibility of advancing, then there's a possibility he will be added.

Catchers

This will likely be the catching duo the White Sox will bring in the Wild Card Round. Now, if the Sox add another bat, it would either be Joey Bart or Edgar Quero as the third catcher. Quero probably would be that third catcher considering he is a switch hitter.

Infielders

Colson Montgomery

Munetaka Murakami

Miguel Vargas

Not really all that shocking to see these names here as Meidroth, Montgomery, Murakami, and Vargas are literally the starting infield for the Sox. While it doesn't seem like that there isn't much infield depth here, but there's other guys who can play in the infield if needed. But the starting infield for this team can really slug the ball as they do the most damage.

Outfielders

Sam Antonacci

Andrew Benintendi

Brenton Doyle

Randal Grichuk

Braden Montgomery

Tristan Peters

Tommy Pham

This is also not very shocking to see these names here, but if the Sox wanted to add another pitcher, they could theoretically drop Pham, though that isn't likely. Now if the team adds another bat, it possibly could be either Rikuu Nishida or Junior Perez, though if that is the case, Nishida would be the likely candidate to be added. Nishida adds speed, left handed bat, and versatility and that plays well. Grichuk and Benintendi is probably going to split designated hitter duties depending who the opposing pitcher is and Pham is going to be a bat off the bench against a left handed pitcher as he hits southpaws very well, plus has postseason experience.
