The White Sox have added more to their bullpen as they have brought in right handed reliever Steve Cishek. It is a one-year deal worth $6 Million with an option for 2021. Cishek will be coming over from North Side rival Cubs where he was a reliable arm in their bullpen.
Cishek got his career started with the Florida/Miami Marlins, but in 2013, that was when he became a reliable reliever as he saved 34 games and had a 2.33 ERA and 1.08 WHIP. After that he had stints with the St. Louis Cardinals, Seattle Mariners, Tampa Bay Rays, and Cubs. He was 4-6 with a 2.95 ERA in 70 games in 2019 with the Cubs while also posting 57 strikeouts and 29 walks in 64 innings.
Cishek uses a devastating skinerball while throwing from a sidearm delivery. He also uses a slider a lot when throwing to right handers. His numbers against right handed batters is incredible as he had a stat line of .183/.260/.293 against while with the Cubs and is actually decent versus lefties as he had a stat line of .217/.367/.361 against.
Cishek is just another great move made by the Pale Hose this offseason as bullpen was one of the last needs the team needed to address. Cishek only just makes the bullpen better for the Sox as he joins a corp of Kelvin Herrera, Jace Fry, Evan Marshall, Jimmy Cordero, Aaron Bummer, and Alex Colome, a group that had a collective 4.31 ERA which finished seventh in the American League just behind five teams that went to the playoffs and the Cleveland Indians. And with now a 26th spot on a roster, the team might not finish adding to their bullpen.
