The Chicago White Sox have reportedly signed outfielder Yoelkis Cespedes. While nothing is official, there seems to be an agreement made and will be made official once the international signing period opens in January. The deal is worth $2 million.
Cespedes is the number one ranked international prospect by MLB Pipeline and number 12 according to Baseball America. He might be small framed at only 5'9", he is a five tool player who is above average in every tool. Cespedes' arm has been compared to his brother's Yoenis. Cespedes is only 23 years old and has bulked up to get up to 205 pounds. Here are his grades: Hit 50, Run 60, Fielding 55, Power 55, Arm 60.
Cespedes can play all three outfield positions and will likely start play in Winston-Salem in 2021. Cespedes is also expected to be with the Sox in 2022 as a full-time player. Other notable names to sign with the Pale Hose this international period will be Cuban pitcher Norge Vera and Dominican third baseman Victor Quezada. Venezuelan catcher Victor Guariman is also another name to be signed.
