White Sox Promote Nick Madrigal; Kelvin Herrera DFA'd

The White Sox have promoted one of their top prospects as second baseman Nick Madrigal had his contract purchased. In order to make room for Madrigal, the club had designated reliever Kelvin Herrera for assignment. This allows the Sox to have Madrigal become their everyday second baseman.

Madrigal was the team's first round draft pick in 2018 and is their number four prospect according to MLB.com. Known for his elite defensive abilities, blazing speed, and bat-to-ball skills, Madrigal makes this White Sox offense instantly better. While his promotion was inevitable, Sox fans are now excited to see what he does in the big leagues.

Herrera had signed a two-year contract worth $18 million in 2019, but he was not able to be effective as he had a 6.71 ERA in 59 appearances for the club over two seasons. Herrera was once an elite reliever as he pitched for one of the best bullpens in Major League Baseball history for the Kansas City Royals as he helped lead them to World Series in 2014 and in 2015 including a championship in 2015. Despite dealing with injuries, the Sox had hoped some of his effectiveness would help their bullpen, but ultimately decided to cut him from the team.
