Washington Hires Marty Hurney & Martin Mayhew For Front Office; Jennifer King For Coaching Job


The Washington Football Team has hired Marty Hurney as Executive Vice President of Football/Player Personnel, Martin Mayhew as General Manager, and Jennifer King as Assistant Running Backs Coach. Hurney is expected to also report to the head coach Ron Rivera. Hurney has 28 years of executive experience including being the Carolina Panthers general manager from 2002 to 2012 then in 2017 till 2020. Hurney does have a knack for finding great talent as he got Carolina to the postseason four times in his tenure including a trip to the Super Bowl.


Mayhew will also report the Rivera. Mayhew has 20 years of executive experience including eight seasons as general manager of the Detroit Lions. Mayhew spent four seasons with the San Francisco 49ers including having held the Vice President of Player Personnel. Mayhew did also spend time with the New York Giants as the Director of Football Operations/Special Projects.


King was the team's intern in 2020, but has now gotten the Assistant Running Backs Coach position on a full time basis. King becomes the first African American female assistant coach in NFL history and the second overall. She had also interned under Rivera in 2018 and 2019 for Carolina.
