The Redskins released safety Montae Nicholson and cornerbacks Coty Sensabaugh, Kayvon Webster, Dee Delaney, and Breon Borders as head coach Ron Rivera has decided to shake up the locker room even more. Nicholson and Sensabaugh are the more significant names here, but Nicholson was the biggest surprise here as he was in line for a starting role. However, Rivera felt like the locker room needed a change and Nicholson was one of those who were shown the door out.
Nicholson was a fourth round draft pick in 2017 and was going into his fourth year of his rookie contract. Nicholson had played in 13 games for the Redskins in 2019 with two interceptions, two fumble recoveries, four passes defended and made 62 tackles. Pro Football Focus had ranked Nicholson 85th out of 90 out of qualifying safeties in 2019, which might have been one of the main reasons why he was cut.
Sensabaugh has been in the league for a while as he was a fourth round draft pick in 2012 by the Tennessee Titans. He had previously played for the New York Giants, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Denver Broncos before coming to the Redskins in 2019. Last season, he had played in six games with 11 tackles.
