Redskins Pick Up Jonathan Allen's Fifth Year Option

The Redskins have decided to make a commitment for the future as the team decided to pick up defensive lineman Jonathan Allen's fifth year option. Allen is a core member of their defensive front and this type of commitment to a player of his capability ensures that the team could build around him. Picking up his option doesn't necessarily mean they won't sign a long-term extension, but it does mean he will stay with the team through 2021.

Allen played well in 2019 as he had 68 tackles, six sacks, a fumble recovery, and a pass defensed. Allen is expected to make $2.04 Million in 2020. He had signed a rookie contract after being drafted in the first round of 2017 that was worth $11.60 Million for four years and a $6.6 Million signing bonus.
