The Washington Redskins have announced Ron Rivera as the new head coach of the team. Rivera was fired by the Carolina Panthers earlier in 2019, but has had success in his career. The hope here is that Rivera can lead the Redskins back to glory and bring a winning culture to the franchise.
Rivera is arguably the best head coach in the short history of the Panthers as he lead the franchise to three division titles and an NFC Championship. Rivera also has won the Associated Press Coach of the Year twice and 76 games for Carolina. So he brings a winning mentality to the Redskins, something that has been needed ever since Joe Gibbs left after the 1992 season.
Rivera brings stability and is known for developing quarterbacks as such with Cam Newton becoming the player he is now. The problem here is that Rivera is inheriting a mess and will have to deal with reconstructing not only a coaching staff, but also a roster. Essentially, he will have to rebuild the team from the ground up. That being said, it's very exciting to see what Rivera will do to make the Redskins successful. He is known as a defensive minded coach, but he does bring discipline and stability which has helped develop a winning culture at Carolina and hopefully to the Redskins. Only time will tell, but this hire shows the dedication of making the Redskins a winning club.
