Redskins Decline Reuben Foster's Fifth Year Option

The Redskins have decided to decline Reuben Foster's fifth year option. That means that Foster will become a free agent after the 2020 season. While Foster is a talented player, the team felt like Foster was not worth keeping for an extra guaranteed season or are waiting to see what he does in 2020 to see if he is worth re-signing.

Foster had signed his rookie contract when he was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the first round in 2017, but the Redskins took control over his services when they picked him up off waivers in 2018. Foster has not played since 2018 as he has dealt with injuries as he tore his ACL, MCL, and PCL causing nerve damage as well. The projected cost of the 2021 option was $10.09 Million, so it made sense to decline his option.
