Redskins Acquire Quarterback Kyle Allen From Carolina

The Redskins seemingly have found their backup quarterback as they have traded their 2020 fifth round draft pick to the Carolina Panthers for Kyle Allen. Allen should provide insurance whether Haskins fails to progress or an injury occurs to him. It will be interesting how head coach Ron Rivera actually uses Allen in 2020.

Allen has familiarity with Rivera's coaching, but he will have to learn a whole new offense under offensive coordinator Scott Turner. That being said, his skill set should be a nice fallback plan if a problem does arise at the quarterback position. Allen was an undrafted free agent in 2018 and signed on with Carolina then. He won the backup job in 2019 and took over the quarterback job once Cam Newton was injured. In 13 games he started, Allen completed 62% of his passes for 3,322 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions. He had also rushed 32 times for 106 yards and two touchdowns.
