Previewing Washington's 2020 Season

With a brand new look, name, and personnel, there is a lot of hope for Washington in 2020. While the team is rebuilding and hoping for a bright future, Washington still has to play and be competitive on the field. There is a lot of talent on this club and it's exciting to see what they can do this year. With that being said, let's preview Washington for 2020.

What Does Ron Rivera Bring?

With a new head coach, Ron Rivera brings a lot of intangibles. He likes a lot of versatility and an open field on offense, but he's also a defensive minded coach and that should help a lot. He's also great for the locker room and he is good at developing players. Fans of the team should feel grateful for having Rivera as the head coach.

Development of Dwayne Haskins

After being the first round draft pick for the team last year, Haskins showed some promise towards the end of 2019. He's going to have to take some big steps forward in his development if he's going to be that franchise quarterback. He's got a great arm and is a smart player, but he needs read defenses better and get more confidence in him. This will take time.

The Defensive Line

The potential of the defensive line is mouthwatering. Even had they not drafted Chase Young, this would've been the strength of the team. When the team has the likes of Daron Payne, Montez Sweat, Matt Ioannidis, Tim Settle, Jonathan Allen, and Young on the defensive line, that's scary good. Even with Ryan Kerrigan joining the front, that helps a lot and Ryan Anderson might line up on the line as well, it's just too good. It's going to be fun to see what they can do.

The Young Guns On Offense

Rivera drafted two young players in Antonio Gibson and Antonio Gandy-Golden and they should be big contributors for this rebuild. In hopes they develop with players like Bryce Love and Terry McLaurin, there is that core that could be nice to build around for the future. The hope is that they could become key contributors for when this rebuild finally ends.

Be Patient With The Rebuild

Losing is never fun, but the benefits of it leads to more talent and more talent leads to more wins. This is going to be a process and it's not going to be easy, but there is a core there that could be built around already that will make Washington a contender soon. However, while the losing might not be fun, the development is worth the while.
