Previewing Everton 2026/27 Season

Everton comes into this 2026/27 campaign looking for a step forward and not a developmental season for younger players. There is a lot of talent for the Blues of Merseyside, but whether they can put it together is the biggest question here. The squad just missed out on European competition, but that might have been due to the factors outside of their ability. However, this feels like a make or break season for manager David Moyes who is in his last year of his contract and what happens here could determine if he gets a long term contract or not.

David Moyes' Future

When Moyes took over the club replacing Sean Dyche, he helped make Everton a much better side, mostly due to his practicality. The club seemingly has progressed each season, but nothing to show for it. Moyes is in the last year of his contract and it could decide whether he stays long term or he moves on. If the team makes European competition, then he likely stays, but Moyes could still decide not to stay for whatever the reason might be. If Everton doesn't make European competition or no trophies, the club could see a mutual split here. Either way, Moyes is a legendary coach for the team, the two would end on amicable terms if it came down to it.

Depth

Sure there's talent, but the question is whether the depth is there. The fact that a right back hasn't been signed yet suggests that possibly there is a lack of depth on this squad. Now, if some players are wanting to hone in on their versatility, that is fine, but a centerback should not be playing as a fullback considering that is supposed to be a speedy player and not a lock down one. But, if position is lacking depth, then it's possible that others are too and that will make or break how Everton does in this campaign because one problem the Toffees had in 2025/26 was how they used their squad as they used the fewest players and substitutes in the league. Rotation is key to keeping a team fresh.

The Transfers In

The players that transferred in are Merlin Rohl, Tyrique Jones, Hayden Hackney, Christian Norgaard, and Brennan Johnson. Rohl and Jones are both youngsters who were on loan with Everton last campaign, but now they have a chance to be bigger impact players in 2026/27 and beyond. Hackney was a highly sought after player from the Championship and looks to make an impact in the Premier League. Norgaard is going to provide some experience and came on the cheap and then there is Johnson who seemingly will fit into this attack.

Get The Youngsters Going

Moyes has plenty of young players to use, but he better learn how to. Moyes tends to not use his players, especially young ones when they are available to sub in. Moyes has to play Rohl, Jones, Hackney, Nathan Patterson, Jarrad Branthwaite, Jake O'Brien, Thierno Barry, Tyler Dibling, Charly Alcaraz, Adam Aznou, Tim Iroegbunam, and Harrison Armstrong as much as possible as it adds plenty of depth, otherwise all that money spent is wasteful. Getting the youngsters going might actually lead to better results.
