Old Glory Signs Mitchel MacCartney

Old Glory has made another signing as they have brought in utility back Mitchel MacCartney. Despite being a back, MacCartney provides a significant punch that could come useful in rucks and on defense as he is 6'2" and weighs 205lbs. He is from Chesapeake, Virginia and playing for Old Glory brings him close to home.

How he will be utilized as a utility back remains to be seen, but that could be mean he is named as either a starter or as a replacement on gameday. It certainly does fill a need for Old Glory as they are thin in the backs, but it's still early and other signings could still be announced soon. That being said, MacCartney does provide some options for the club. He is also very athletic as he played rugby, football, soccer, hockey, and basketball in high school.

MacCartney has an interesting rugby career as he has played in the top competition in Spain, the Liga Heineken as he played for Cajasol Ciencias. He then would move back home to play for the Norfolk Blues. The Blues are a part of the Capital Rugby Union, a union that had just partnered up with Old Glory for player development and a pathway to an MLR contract.

There are some names that are expected to be named to the team soon, but MacCartney is a welcoming sign that the club is already capitalizing on finding talent in the CRU. It will be interesting if any more big names will be coming to the club for 2020, but after every announcement of a signing, the more and more exciting it gets.
