Former Notre Dame quarterback and current Irish quarterbacks coach Tommy Rees was named the offensive coordinator as he will be replacing Chip Long. Long was fired after the 2019 season. Head Coach Brian Kelly had done a comprehensive search across the nation for a new offensive coordinator, but ultimately it will be Rees who will head the offense.
Rees had interviewed for the same position at Northwestern and Oregon, but ultimately decided to take the job at Notre Dame. It will be interesting how Rees builds this offense, but as a former quarterback, that could help him a lot. Current starting quarterback Ian Book had credited Rees in helping him develop, but it also stands to mean that Rees will try to build the offense around Book's strengths.
