After Clark Lea left Notre Dame for the Vanderbilt head coach position, Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly had to fill in the defensive coordinator vacancy. Kelly has hired on University of Cincinnati defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman to fill that position. Freeman comes in with an impressive resume as helped lead Cincinnati's head coach Luke Fickell's defensive unit to a fourth ranking overall in 2020. Freeman's hiring is an elite recruiter who might be able to pull in some talent from Ohio as well as possibly landing even five star recruits. Freeman was sought after aggressively by numerous schools, but ultimately landed on Kelly's coaching staff.
