Looking At The Redskins: Running Backs

This is the second article of a series of nine looking at the Redskins' positions. Running backs could either make an offense look good or bad depending on the player as it helps distribute the ball wealth and not putting any pressure on receivers. The Redskins have a very impressive group with some depth here and it will be interesting to see what these players do.

Adrian Peterson

Peterson just keeps on producing despite being in his mid-30s especially as he rushed for over 1,000 yards last year. The future hall of famer looks to backup Derrius Guice this year as well as mentor him. The Redskins are lucky to have Peterson still as productive as he is.

Chris Thompson

Thompson has a wealth of talent and the league is now taking notice of how good of a player he is. Thompson is the Redskins' not so secret weapon as he can beat teams in so many different ways. He is fast and is a good receiver, the Redskins found a diamond in the rough a few years ago and now they are cashing in with him.

Derrius Guice

Guice was going to be the franchise running back when he was drafted by the Redskins, but was injured for the entirety of 2018. In 2019, he will essentially be playing in his "rookie" year and is expected to be the starting running back. There is a lot of talent in Guice and the hope is that he can do some big things for the team.

Wendell Smallwood

Smallwood comes over from the Philadelphia Eagles on waivers as he is expected to be the fourth running back on the roster. Smallwood provides the Redskins more options on offense as he can catch and he can run the ball. He won't put up some overwhelming numbers, but he should come in and help from time to time. He also provides depth.

*Shaun Wilson

Wilson made the team out of camp, but he will start the season on the injured reserve list. He is not likely to come back this season, but at least they keep him and hope to develop him for next year.

*Bryce Love

The former college star will not play for the Redskins this year because of an injury, but the hope is that he will be able to compete for a spot next year. He does have a nice skillset, so it will be interesting to see what the team does with next year.
