Looking At The Redskins: Offensive Line

This is the fifth article of a series of nine looking at the Redskins' positions. Arguably the second most important part of a football team, the offensive line has a very important job of protecting the quarterback and if an offensive line is not effective, the offense won't be able to produce. Some have questions about this group, but there is experience and talent here.

Brandon Scherff

Scherff has been excellent on the offensive line ever since he was drafted in 2015. He wasn't a sexy selection, but a much needed one. His blocking abilities are superb, but there is that problem where his contract is coming towards the end. The hope is that they can re-sign him.

Morgan Moses

Moses is a very underrated offensive lineman as he has helped make the Redskins offensive line into a very good one. Moses' blocking ability is very good and his partnership with Scherff is one of the best in the league.

Chase Roullier

Roullier was a very underrated draft pick by the Redskins, but he has helped make the Redskins offensive line a very good one. Roullier has the all important job at being the center, but he has established himself as a great center.

Donald Penn

Penn was signed to be the replacement to Trent Williams while Williams is having his hold out. That being said, Penn is an excellent offensive lineman still even though he is getting up there in age.

Ereck Flowers

Flowers is trying a new position for the Redskins, but his career has been a very disappointing one so far. Some have labeled him as a bust, but maybe a position change is what is best for his career.

Tony Bergstrom

Bergstrom signed with the team when they experienced a lot of injuries and he filled in admirably. He is now a backup player, but his familiarity with the offense is what helps him stay on the team.

Ross Pierschbacher

Pierschbacher was a draft pick for the Redskins in 2019, but the hope is that he can develop into something. For now, he will be depth, but he does provide versatility as he can play all over in the offensive line and he did play for Alabama in college, so his abilities clearly are highly thought of.

Geron Christian

Christian is another depth piece for the Redskins, but the hope is that he can fill in admirably if an injury occurs. Their hope is that Christian can develop into a starting player.

Wes Martin

Martin was a shock draft pick, but clearly they drafted him for depth and if Flowers falters at his position switch, Martin could be their guy. He is an excellent blocker and probably could fill in well if injuries occur.

*Trent Williams

Williams is a star offensive lineman who is an excellent blocker and moves really well. He has a contract holdout right now and with the drama surrounding it, he may or may not come back to play.

*Casey Dunn

Dunn was never seen as someone to make the squad, but they liked what they saw from him. He was placed on the injured reserve so he will be around the team competing for a job next season.
