Looking At The Redskins: Linebackers

This is the seventh article of a series of nine looking at the Redskins' positions. This is one of the deepest units on the Redskins as they boast talent and experience, including having a future hall of fame player on their roster. These guys are arguably the best defensive players and most important on the field as it's a very valuable position to have.

Ryan Kerrigan

Kerrigan has been a star player for the Redskins for a long time and is a future hall of famer. Kerrigan terrorizes offenses with his skill set and is very strong. Not before long, he will become the sack leader in franchise history. With over the hypothetical 100 sacks that he could get in his career, that would be impressive nonetheless.

Montez Sweat

Sweat was a late first round draft pick and there is a lot to like about him. He is a very talented player who could wreak a lot of havoc on opposing offenses. While we know he is talented, we don't know how he will do on the field in the NFL yet, but the hope is that he is a great pass rusher.

Ryan Anderson

Anderson has slowly solidified himself as a strong depth piece in the linebacking corp for the Redskins. Yet another Alabama alumni, Anderson is a talented player who is good enough to start in the NFL. While his numbers aren't overwhelming, he has a chance to shine in 2019.

Cassanova McKinzy

McKinzy made one of the last spots in the linebacking corp after having a great preseason. He did play with the Redskins a bit last year, but in 2019, he has a chance to establish himself as a reliable backup player. He essentially took Reuben Foster's spot after Foster injured himself.

Jon Bostic

Bostic was signed in the offseason as it was clear the team was looking for an established veteran. Bostic has played in the league since 2013 with a few teams like the Chicago Bears, Indianapolis Colts, and Pittsburgh Steelers. How he will be used is the biggest question.

Shaun Dion Hamilton

Yet another Alabama alumni that the Redskins drafted last year as the team is seemingly becoming Alabama NFL. That being said, Hamilton put up pretty solid numbers and was a steady presence last season. The hope is that Hamilton takes huge strides to become a force to be reckoned with.

Cole Holcomb

Holcomb was a draft pick in this past NFL Draft, but once you watch him play, you'll know why the team drafted him. He thoroughly impressed in training camp and in preseason as he could be a stabilizing force at linebacker. The Redskins might have drafted a steal here in Holcomb.

Josh Harvey-Clemons

Harvey-Clemons provides a lot of depth for the team, but he is also very talented. He has put up some good numbers in the NFL, but he has been a presence on the field that is hard to equal. The hope is that he continues to develop and become a bigger force on the field.

Tanner Vallejo

Vallejo was added later after roster cuts were made after he was let go by the Arizona Cardinals. He has been in the league since 2017 and his speed makes him an attractive player. He will be depth at this point.

*Jordan Brailford

Brailford was a late round draft pick in 2019 and played really well in preseason, but ultimately will go on injured reserve to begin the season. The Redskins seem to like him as Brailford will no doubt be competing for a job next year.

*Reuben Foster

Foster is yet another Alabama alumnus on the Redskins. Foster is a very talented linebacker who would no doubt wreak so much havoc when he's on the field. He's dealt with a lot of off-the-field issues, but the Redskins hope he's a better man now. He is injured and will be out the entire year.
