Looking At The Capitals: Forwards

Nicklas Backstrom

Backstrom has been a long standing member for the Capitals as he is a superstar. He can score goals really well and is a playmaker in his own right. He is also a leader out there on the ice. If the Capitals are going to win, they will need Backstrom healthy and playing at his best.

Travis Boyd

Boyd is a player who should be getting regular playing time in the NHL as he is a two way player. The problem though is he is depth at this point because there is so many good players on the roster. He probably could get a crack at a bottom six forward role, but he is good to have as insurance.

Nic Dowd

Dowd is another two way player for the Capitals, but just like Boyd, he is just merely depth. He can also be a playmaker, but it hurts that the Capitals have a lot of those already. He should get some bottom six forward minutes from time to time.

Lars Eller

Eller is a fast skating center who is an excellent defensive player and is a good penalty killer. Eller has also been good depth for the team in his time since being traded from Montreal. He is a talented player, but doesn't play up to his potential.

Carl Hagelin

Hagelin was acquired last season and made an impact right away. He is always a consistent player. He is also a very fast player who is great defensively. Hagelin also scores from time to time.

Garnet Hathaway

Hathaway was acquired during the offseason as he adds more grittiness and tends to get under a lot of player's skins. He isn't going to show up in the box score much, but his presence on the ice will be felt. This was a very underrated pick up for the team.

Evgeny Kuznetsov

It took Kuznetsov a while to become the player that he did, but he has become an elite player like we have hoped he would. He did have a down year last season, but he should be back to his normal self this campaign. He will be a top six forward.

Brendan Leipsic

Leipsic might have been another underrated pickup for the Capitals as he is very similar to Hathaway in play. He won't show up in the box score, but he will on the ice. He will likely be a bottom six forward for the team.

T.J. Oshie

Oshie is a superstar winger who was picked up from St. Louis a few seasons ago as he is a very speedy and great goal scorer. He is an elite player and one of the best two-way players in the game. He can also be physical too.

Alex Ovechkin

Ovechkin is one of the greatest goal scorers of our generation and one of the best hockey players to grace the ice. He is also a leader and is also very physical which makes him a lethal weapon in every which way possible. Also that slapshot of his is incredible

Richard Panik

Panik is a very underrated two-way player. He has the ability to play great defense and can score goals well, however, he really has never gotten the chance to flourish. With the Capitals, he might be stuck as a bottom six forward, but it goes to show the depth of the team.

Chandler Stephenson

Stephenson has been a steady presence for the Capitals for the last couple of seasons as he is a fast, versatile, and great defensive player. The problem with him is that he doesn't score very much. He is a solid bottom six forward.

Jakub Vrana

Vrana has come up through the ranks to become a reliable winger and top six forward. He is a talented player who is on his way onto becoming a star. He is also a fast player on skates.

Tom Wilson

Wilson is a bruiser as he is very physical and has become a top notch enforcer on the ice. Wilson also has the ability to score goals too which makes him even more dangerous. His penalty killing is also very good.
