After a long hiatus, college basketball is back. It will be interesting to see what happens during the season as there is the pandemic happening. With a disappointing 2019-20 season, head coach Roy Williams and North Carolina hope to get back to their winning ways. They do have a ranking of 16th, but the season is far from really getting going. This article will take a look at the Tar Heels' schedule and analyze how they will do this season.
Nonconference Foes
Game 1: Charleston
Game 2: UNLV
Game 3: 5 Iowa
Game 4: Elon
Game 5: 23 Ohio State
This will be an intriguing nonconference schedule to begin the season. Charleston has always made ranked teams sweat. UNLV is a bit of an unknown, but they could make things tough for UNC. Iowa right off the bat is going to make life difficult for the Heels as they are the fifth ranked team in the nation. That should tell what type of team Williams has recruited. Elon will be a test against North Carolina sides, but this shouldn't be anything to sweat about. Ohio State will be interesting as they are the 23rd ranked team in the nation. Depending where UNC will be at that point, that might be a crucial matchup.

The ACC is clearly not the strongest as it has been in the past, but one thing you can be assured of that it's never that easy of a conference. No doubt facing Duke twice on the schedule should be circled by every UNC fan as that rivalry is absolutely exhilarating to watch. It will also test them as, wherever they are at in the rankings, it's good to play them before the ACC Tournament and NCAA March Madness. Florida State twice should be another good test for the Heels as Seminoles' head coach Leonard Hamilton runs a rotational system and gets the best out of his players. Playing Virginia once is a blessing, but they are probably the strongest side in the entire conference so that will be a tough game. Outside of that, Louisville, Virginia Tech, Miami, and Syracuse are going to make things difficult for the Tar Heels as they are good sides. While not as difficult as usual for the conference, it is not going to be easy at all as there aren't many teams that are pushovers. It will be interesting to see what happens in the conference this season for UNC.
