Looking At Everton: Goalkeepers

In this series of looking at positions for Everton, the first one has to go to the most important one on the pitch and thats goalkeeper. Everton is blessed to have some top tier talent manning the net and that should help Everton's place on the table. But with that in mind, lets take a look at the goalkeepers Everton has on the squad.

Jordan Pickford

Pickford has been a rock for Everton since he joined the squad a couple of seasons ago and he's been so good that he locked down the England national team starting job. He has great hands, his movement is awesome, and vision of the field is incredible and is really an excellent goalkeeper. However, there were stretches where he struggled and there were questions about his ability to stay consistent. That being said, if he plays up to his potential, it will be hard for teams to score past him.

Jonas Lossl

Lossl came over on a free transfer, but he might be the most undervalued signing that Marcel Brands has made as there is lots to like about him. He is experienced having played for the Denmark national team and even some Bundesliga (Mainz) and Premier League (Huddersfield). While not likely to start, he's here to push Pickford and give him some competition. If Pickford struggles or he is injured, Lossl should be competent enough to do a good job. This was an underrated acquisition.

Maarten Stekelenburg

Stekelenburg is the third goalkeeper on the depth chart and he provides experience as he has played for Ajax, Roma, Monaco, Fulham, and Southampton before coming to Everton. He is not likely to get much playing time, but he does provide insurance. While his skills have deteriorated as he is getting older, but he should be a fine option at the net if needed.

Projected starter: Pickford
