Josh Matavesi To Stay At Bath; Club Offers Contract Extensions To Three Players

Bath has announced that center Josh Matavesi will be staying with the club as he signed an extension. The club also announced that they had offered contract extensions to Max Clark, Max Green, and Henry Thomas as well as announcing that Gabe Hamer-Webb has signed contract with the senior side. More details about the squad are expected to be announced soon.

Matavesi had come to Bath midseason from Newcastle and has impressed thus far. There were hopes that the team could keep him around and now have done so. Matavesi brings a lot to the Bath offense as he's a great ball carrier and can play at both center and flyhalf as well as wing and fullback in a pinch.

Clark and Green are great depth pieces for Bath. Clark, a product of the academy, is a great ball carrier and awesome defender as a center. Green, another academy product, is a speedy player and is a great ball distributor. These are the types of depth players clubs need to stay competitive.

Despite injury issues and having fallen out of favor, Thomas has decided to stay at Bath. Thomas signed a one year contract extension as the team must still feel that he is worth keeping around. That being said, Thomas is a quality player who will be fantastic depth. When healthy and at his best, he will undoubtedly be pushing for a starting role, but the hope is that he can get consistent playing time.

Hamer-Webb is yet another product of the academy to join the senior side permanently in 2020-21. He is a talented player that the club must have felt is ready to step in and contribute at the highest level. He also has played with England at the Under-20 level in the 2020 Six Nations championship. It is unclear who Hamer-Webb will be replacing on the roster, but he can play as a wing and possibly at fullback.
