Everton Bring In Djibril Sidibe On Loan Deal

Everton continues to make more splash moves before the season begins as defenseman Djibril Sidibe joins the Blues on a season-long loan deal from AS Monaco. In fact, the deal could become a permanent move if the two sides decide to go forward with it next summer. He is expected to compete with Seamus Coleman for a starting role, but will be a backup for sure. Sidibe made it very clear in a press release made by the team that he is dedicated to help the Toffees win trophies.

The 27-year old Frenchman had joined Monaco on a five-year deal back in 2016 and in 81 league appearances for the club he had scored four goals. He was also a part of the France squad that won the 2018 World Cup, but on the international stage he has 18 appearances and has scored one goal. He is known to be a strong defender, but who also has a great ability to attack and to pass efficiently.

It will be interesting to see how Marco Silva decides to play both Coleman and Sidibe at right-back as each will be competing against one another for the starting role. However, Silva is confident that while it might be a competition, he feels comfortable with however is starting. Sidibe is a talented and experienced player and that will be useful as Coleman has had issues with staying healthy in the past. Coleman is 30 as well, so his best years are possibly behind him. This almost seems like it is Coleman's last chance to prove himself now that Sidibe has a chance to impress especially with an opportunity to make this loan deal a permanent move next summer.

This was an excellent move for Everton as they are seemingly making so many great moves right before the season begins and they are bringing in a lot of experienced and quality players. Sidibe is another example of this and it seems like they are bringing him in to see if he is a better choice than Coleman on the backline. Either way, this move just only strengthens their squad.
