Everton 2019/20 Losses

Every season clubs lose players as they cannot keep everyone. This article takes a look at all the players that departed Everton for other teams or the club decided not to retain. Here are the players who departed the Blues.

Phil Jagielka

Jagielka was the heart and soul of the team for many seasons, but age has finally caught up with him and it was time for both sides to move on. He might have been good for depth, but the club clearly wanted to go younger. He will be seen as a team legend in the near future.

Ashley Williams

The defenseman had a bit of a disappointing spell at Everton. The Welshman had a wealth of experience on the blue line, but put in a lackluster effort. His release was imminent.

Nikola Vlasic

Vlasic was a talented midfielder whose time was wasted with the club. He only appeared in 12 league matches and not scoring any goals. He had been on a loan last year and with the signings they made, he had fallen further down the depth chart. His departure was bound to happen.

Brendan Galloway

This was a loss that hurts as he was a talented defenseman. His speed was nice to have out on the wings as it almost made him somewhat of a hybrid midfield/defenseman. But having been out on loan a lot and some of the moves brought in at the backline, Galloway's chances of breaking in a starting role dwindled. His time was coming to a close and he made the right career move.

Antonee Robinson

Robinson is another talented defenseman whose chances at obtaining a starting role for the club were small especially with whom the team had acquired. Like Galloway, he made the right career move and went to another team where he had a better chance at starting. This one hurts a bit.

Bassala Sambou

Sambou was a striker who had a very difficult time at getting a chance at a starting role. He was simply blocked from cracking the first team whether it was a backup role or a starting role. There was simply no chance he was going to play as a Blue.

Ademola Lookman

Lookman was a frustrating player for the club as he had moments where he looked like the next star and others where he disappointed. That being said, he is a very talented winger who needed a chance to play every day to get a good look and RB Leipzig should give that opportunity. It will be interesting to see how he does in the Bundesliga

Idrissa Gueye

This has to be the biggest loss of the transfer window as Gueye was a very strong player in the midfield. He was Everton's best player last season. However, he decided to move to PSG and it became the most important need for the club during the window. His shoes will be hard to fill.

Joe Williams

This midfielder is a young player who had the opportunity to develop. However, he was out loan a lot and it never seemed like he was going to get a chance. His transfer was imminent.

James McCarthy

McCarthy used to be a vital piece of Everton's midfield a few seasons ago, but then injuries derailed his career. It was really disappointing as he was a very talented player and it hurts to see his career go the way it did and with the players the club brought in, McCarthy's chances to play at a starting role had diminished. His time as a Blue was coming to an end and he finally made his move out.

Henry Onyekuru

Onyekuru never actually spent any time wearing an Everton jersey as he was never able to obtain a work visa and also dealt with an injury, so his time was dwindling. He is a very talented forward who needed to go somewhere to play on a permanent basis as his signing with the Blues was a bit of a waste. This was an excellent career move for him.
