Evaluating Redskins 2019 Draft Class

The majority of teams tend to draft for best available talent on the board when it's their time, but the Redskins decided to go a different route as they drafted for need and depth and possibly had one of the best drafts in the league. The Redskins had a roster built for the playoffs last season until injuries hurt them including their depth players. While it is a question as to whether the team will make the playoffs in 2019, the squad is built for future runs with the team able to build upon their foundation. With that being said, let's take a look at the players drafted by the team in 2019.

Dwayne Haskins-QB, Ohio State

The Redskins needed to find a franchise quarterback and their hope is that Haskins is their guy. Haskins has a good arm as he threw for 50 touchdowns at Ohio State in 2018. The question will be what he does in the pocket as he does not run well with his legs. He won't get much playing time in 2019, but that's because he is going to be watching and learning the offense before he becomes "the" guy.

Montez Sweat-LB, Mississippi State

Sweat just bolsters the linebacking corp even more and could become their star linebacker once Kerrigan retires. He's a strong player who can stuff the run well and is an excellent pass rusher. He also could spend some time playing at defensive line if needed or in a blitz situation. This might be a very underrated pick.

Terry McLaurin-WR, Ohio State

McLaurin is going to team up again with his college quarterback, but McLaurin has a skill set that many like. He is very speedy and has excellent hands. McLaurin could become a star receiver that this team has needed for a while.

Bryce Love-RB, Stanford

Love was selected because he has a nice skill set and provides a lot of depth. He was a star player at Stanford as he presents a lot of options. Love is injured and will miss the 2019 season, but for 2020, it will be exciting to see what he does.

Wes Martin-OG, Indiana

Martin was signed purely for depth reasons as that was something that hurt the team, literally, as the Redskins lost some key members of the offensive line in 2018 including some depth players. There is some suspicion that Martin could develop into a solid guard and takes over from Ereck Flowers if Flowers falters and just in general for the future.

Ross Pierschbacher-OL, Alabama

Technically a center, Pierschbacher is listed as an offensive lineman because he is versatile and can play all over the offensive line. Like Martin, he is seen as depth, but he could develop into a starting player. The Redskins might have gotten lucky that he fell to them in the draft.

Cole Holcomb-LB, North Carolina

This was a surprise pick, but it could be a very valuable one as Holcomb provides a lot of depth and is a quality player. He also has a lot of speed, which could help a lot in the pass rush. This is a very exciting pick.

Kelvin Harmon-WR, NC State

The Redskins were clearly lacking in depth at wide receiver and they went out and got an underrated pick in Harmon. Harmon is a big and physical player. He can block well and has good hands, so there is a lot to like about him. He possibly can become a very productive receiver in the NFL.

Jimmy Moreland-CB, James Madison

Moreland was a ball hawk in his time at James Madison, an FCS school, but the question is whether he can translate to the NFL. He is very physical and that is something that the team will need at defensive back.

Jordan Brailford-LB, Oklahoma State

Like Holcomb, Brailford is a speedy linebacker who provides more depth at the linebacking position for the Redskins. He is seen as a developmental guy, so their hope is that he can be a productive player in the NFL.
