Capitals Sign Trevor van Riemsdyk

The Washington Capitals have signed defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk to a one year, $800,000 contract. The 29 year old is expected to play in a bottom four blue line role for the Capitals. Despite van Riemsdyk's solid career, last season was not his best season as in 49 games, he recorded a goal and eight points for a -7 rating for the Carolina Hurricanes. However, he did play on the NHL's fourth best penalty killing unit, which might have been a big factor to his signing with the Capitals.
