The Washington Capitals have signed veteran goalie Henrik Lundqvist to a one year contract and will be a $1.5 million cap hit. The 38 year old is expected to share playing time with up and coming goalie Ilya Samsonov and replaces Braden Holtby who departs via free agency. Lundqvist is a former Vezina Trophy winner as well an Olympic gold medal winner. He also has a very notable nickname around the league as he is referred to as "King Henrik" as he had a very stellar career with the New York Rangers. It's unsure how much playing time he will get, but it should be expected that he will mentor Samsonov as Samsonov is expected to be the future starting goalie for the Capitals.
