Bath Rugby has made another acquisition as the club has brought in scrumhalf Rhys Webb for the rest of the 2019/20 campaign. Webb is currently playing for Wales in the 2020 Six Nations tournament, but is coming over from Toulon, a team he left last month (though he is expected to re-join his old team Ospreys at the end of this season). Webb also has British and Irish Lions experience.
For Wales, Webb has 32 appearances and also has a tour on his resume for the British and Irish Lions where he made two substitute appearances. He has scored six tries for Wales in his international career. Bath was in need of some depth after the injury to Max Green.
This is a quality signing for Bath as it will be interesting how he will be used. It will be hard to imagine that Webb wouldn't be selected for a starting role, but Bath now has both him and Will Chudley (along with Oliver Fox) to use on matchdays. Webb should be the starting scrumhalf, but he could be used as a finisher to close out matches. Because of Webb's arrival, it would seem like Chris Cook will become depth. That being said, this was an excellent signing for the club's push for the playoffs.
